To put that in perspective, that’s roughly 16.5 × 16.5 × 19.7 inches of usable print space. For anyone who’s dealt with the frustration of slicing a large model into multiple parts and then trying to glue them together seamlessly, this is genuinely liberating. You can print a full-size cosplay helmet, a massive wall relief, an architectural model, or a large functional enclosure — all in one shot, no gluing required.

This build volume is what places the Kobra 3 Max Combo firmly in the “large format” category, and according to Anycubic, it currently holds the title of the largest consumer-grade multicolor 3D printer available. Independent reviewers have confirmed that at the time of testing, there are few 3D printers that can compare with the Anycubic Kobra 3 Max. The printer itself is a massive improvement over the Kobra 2 Max, with reliable auto leveling, input shaping, and solid speed. It’s also the biggest multicolor 3D printer on the market, with competition slow to catch up.

For large format 3D printer enthusiasts, this represents a real step change. The Kobra 3 Max Combo doesn’t just offer a slightly larger bed — it opens up an entirely new class of prints that simply weren’t possible on most desktop machines before.

4. Multi-Color Printing with ACE Pro

One of the most exciting aspects of the Kobra 3 Max Combo is its multi-color printing capability powered by the ACE (Anycubic Color Engine) Pro system. This is what makes the “Combo” in the name meaningful — the printer ships together with at least one ACE Pro unit, enabling you to print in up to four colors right out of the box.

When two ACE Pro units are connected using the eight-color feed module, the system enables up to 8-color printing. So if you want to take your multicolor game to the next level, you simply add a second ACE Pro and connect them together.

How does the ACE Pro work in practice? The system is essentially an external multi-filament feeding unit. You load different colored filaments into its slots, assign colors and material types on the printer’s touchscreen, and from that point, the ACE Pro handles the switching automatically during printing. You simply need to feed filament into an unused slot on the ACE Pro, then assign the color and filament type on the printer’s screen. At that point, it is ready to go.

One clever bonus feature of the ACE Pro is its intelligent filament identification capability. The ACE Pro can precisely detect intelligent identification filaments, automatically optimizing printer settings for the best results. This means if you’re using Anycubic’s own labeled filaments, the system can read them and apply the correct printing profiles automatically — a real time-saver.

The ACE Pro also doubles as a filament dryer. The filament box includes drying capability, and the hotbed heats from 25°C to 60°C in only 125 seconds. Moisture in filament is one of the most common culprits behind poor print quality, stringing, and bubbles — so having a built-in drying function is a genuinely useful and practical feature.

It’s worth noting one important limitation: TPU (95A) is only suitable for single-color printing and is not suitable for printing with ACE Pro. For everything else — PLA, PETG, ABS, and the wide range of materials the ACE Pro supports including ASA, PA, PC, PP, and HIPS — you’re in great shape.

5. Performance and Printing Speed

The printer supports printing speeds of up to 600 mm/s with a recommended operating speed of 300 mm/s. That’s firmly in the “high speed” category, comparable to some of the fastest printers currently available at the consumer level.

The maximum acceleration reaches 10,000 mm/s², and the hotend supports temperatures up to 300°C with a standard 0.4 mm nozzle that is expandable to 0.2, 0.6, or 0.8 mm variants.

The combination of high speed and input shaping — which corrects for vibration-induced artifacts at high speeds — means you can push the machine fairly hard without sacrificing print quality. Most users find that the sweet spot is somewhere around 200–300 mm/s for general printing, which still represents a significant improvement over older-generation machines.

The hotbed, made from PEI-coated spring steel, heats up quickly and provides good adhesion for most materials. The PEI surface grips prints firmly while hot and releases them easily when cooled — a simple flex of the build plate is often all you need to pop off a completed print.

For large prints that take many hours, the Kobra 3 Max Combo also includes AI-powered spaghetti detection (requires the optional camera accessory). This feature monitors the print in progress and can pause or cancel a job if it detects a catastrophic failure — a potentially huge time- and filament-saver when you’re running an overnight print.

6. Automatic Leveling and Ease of Use

One area where the Kobra 3 Max Combo really shines — especially for users who remember the bad old days of manual bed leveling — is its automatic leveling system. Bed leveling is completely automatic on the Anycubic Kobra 3 Max and works extremely well. It is part of the initial calibration suite and is offered before every print.

The system used here is Anycubic’s LeviQ 3.0, which probes the bed at multiple points and creates a mesh map of the surface to compensate for any unevenness. In practice, this means you almost never have to think about bed leveling — the printer handles it for you before every print if you want, or you can skip it if you haven’t moved the machine.

The user interface is handled by a bright, responsive 4.3-inch color touchscreen. The screen is intuitive and easy to navigate, making material selection, print management, and settings adjustments straightforward for users at all skill levels.

Setup is refreshingly straightforward.
